Everything You Need to Know Before We Break Ground

From permits in Markham to choosing between Cedar and Trex, we’ve got the answers

Materials & Options (Quality & Maintenance)

We specialize in eco-friendly materials like Cedar, Pressure Treated (PT) wood, Composite that are durable and stylish, perfect for outdoor living.

Wood products should be cleaned and sealed every 2–3 years. For a truly zero-maintenance lifestyle, we recommend our Composite Solutions, which only require a simple soap-and-water wash once a season.

We specialize in Trex and Azek (TimberTech). These brands offer the best UV protection and moisture resistance, ensuring your deck looks “Masterpiece” quality even after a decade of exposure to snow and sun.

Cedar offers natural rot resistance and a premium aesthetic without chemicals. Pressure Treated (PT) wood is more budget-friendly but requires more frequent staining to prevent cracking and warping over time.

We provide a 5-year workmanship warranty on all structural builds. Additionally, our composite materials come with manufacturer warranties ranging from 25 to 50 years against fading and stains.

Construction & Local Environment (Durability)

We strictly follow the Ontario Building Code, digging all posts to a minimum depth of 42 inches. This ensures your footings are below the frost line, preventing shifting during Canadian winters.

Markham and Richmond Hill are known for rocky soil. We use specialized heavy-duty augers to ensure structural integrity. If extreme conditions are met, we discuss technical adjustments immediately to ensure a level, stable build.

While the peak season is Spring through Fall, we can perform installs as long as the ground is not fully frozen. However, deck staining and concrete setting are best handled in temperatures above 10°C for optimal results.

Most residential fence projects are completed within 2–4 days. A custom deck typically takes 1–2 weeks, depending on the complexity, weather conditions, and permit approval timelines.

Legal, Permits & Neighbors (Compliance)

Generally, any deck higher than 2 feet (24 inches) above the ground or attached to the house requires a Building Permit. We can handle the entire application process to ensure your build is 100% legal.

In most residential areas, rear yard fences can be up to 2 meters (approx. 6.5 feet) high. We ensure all designs comply with Local Municipal By-laws to avoid any future legal issues for the homeowner.

Under the Line Fences Act, neighbors usually share the cost of a “basic” fence. We can provide split invoicing to make the process transparent and professional for both parties.

We recommend customers provide a Property Survey. While we assist in identifying boundary markers, the homeowner is responsible for confirmed accuracy. We build with precision to ensure no encroachment occurs.

Pricing & Estimates (Budget & Value)

We provide free preliminary quotes based on your project dimensions and photos. For complex projects, a project manager will perform a comprehensive site visit to confirm technical details and soil conditions before final contracting.

Pricing varies by material: Standard PT Wood starts at the economy level, while Premium Cedar or Elite Composite sits at a higher price point. Factors like rocky terrain or old fence removal will also influence the final investment.

The primary drivers are material choice (PT vs. Composite), deck height (requires more structural framing), and add-ons like integrated LED lighting, glass railings, or multi-level designs.

We require a standard deposit to secure your spot in our construction schedule and cover initial material costs. Final payment is only due upon completion and your total satisfaction with the workmanship.
